Why OpenSolaris?

OpenSolaris is a state-of-the-art, cutting-edge operating system that provides a rich, coherent platform for building and running applications.

Storage

The Zettabyte File System (ZFS) is one of OpenSolaris' primary features. ZFS features immense scalability and industry-leading data integrity.

Solaris Containers

The virtualization engine in OpenSolaris is called Solaris Containers. It's a lightweight virtualization engine which allows fine-grained security and increased flexibility. This allows us to move or replicate your Gardens with little hassle. For instance, if one of our servers go down, we can always get your Garden up on another server quickly.

Crossbow

Crossbow is a network virtualization layer that allows virtual servers full control of their network interface, while still enjoying the benefits of the lightweight virtualization in OpenSolaris.

Starting in July 2009, Crossbow will be available for Capasit Garden customers. It will, for instance, allow customers to configure their local firewall.

DTrace

DTrace is a comprehensive dynamic tracing framework for OpenSolaris. DTrace provides a powerful infrastructure to permit administrators, developers, and service personnel to concisely answer performance questions about the behavior of the operating system and user programs.

IPS

The Image Packaging System, or IPS for short, is a network-based packaging system.

Capasit provides a package mirror exclusively for Garden customers, to ensure snappy and immediate access to packages. In addition to this, we're maintaining our own set of packages which aren't in OpenSolaris already, or where we can improve on the current packaged software.

If you want a package considered for inclusion in Capasit's package repository, visit our feature request forum.
